Colossians: Walking in Him

Paul tells the Colossians, and is ultimately telling us, to walk in Christ and explains this by being rooted, built up, established, and thankful... we will explore these two verses which are a great summary of what a Christian's life is to be about!

John 15:1-8
Colossians 1:24-2:7

Sermon discussion questions for parents to use with their children:
  • What does it mean to walk in Jesus?
  • What does it mean to be rooted in Him?
  • What does it mean to be built up in Him?
  • What does it mean to be established in the faith?
  • Why is thanksgiving a quality control?
  • How can we do these things?

Acts: From the Heart

Every once in a while in Scripture we are given the rare opportunity to listen in on a very special conversation or private meeting. In Acts we will listen in as Paul pours out his deep concerns to the Elders of the Ephesian church. To hear an apostle give a sort of last will and testament to a group of Elders whom he may never see again is not only a special privilege, it is incredibly instructive. Now our church can benefit from this special teaching.

Acts: The Much Traveled Apostle

So much goes on in each section of Acts we study that it is exciting to see God at work and to meet amazing people. This time we will meet a zealous and gifted man named Apollos and see his humility as well as the humility of the early church leaders... it's refreshing and instructive. Then, we will be challenged with lots of questions when some disciples of John the Baptist don't know about the Holy Spirit, then experience Him. What does this teach us about the Holy Spirit today and the gift of tongues, etc.? We will seek to unravel some of these issues and answer questions folks may have.

Mark: Sins Forgiven... A Big Deal

Jesus delays healing a paralytic while he forgives his sins. That is not what the man wanted... he wanted to walk. What is Jesus teaching here in Mark about what is most important?

Daniel 7:9-14
Mark 1:45-2:12,1:1,1:11

Sermon discussion questions for parents to use with their children:
  • What does it mean that Jesus saw their faith?
  • Why did Jesus not heal the man first and then forgive his sins?
  • How were the scribes sort of right and also very wrong?
  • How do people today want Jesus' blessings but are not really concerned about having their sins forgiven?
  • Why is having our sins forgiven the most important thing?

The Assembling of Ourselves Together: The Primacy of Preaching

The Bible calls preaching foolishness and powerful...why? Why has God ordained this thing called preaching as one of the primary ways he saves and makes disciples? Does God actually speak to people through the preaching of a mere fallible human? How does all of this work?

The Assembling of Ourselves Together: Making Disciples

What is the real purpose of the church? Is it to pack the pews? Is it to put on the best show possible? Or has Jesus defined our true purpose? We'll examine the Great Commission and what it means for Christ's church as we continue to explore The Assembling of Ourselves Together.
