All Christians suffer some kind of persecution. Peter has been describing how we are to handle that experience. In this text he has an interesting application: how does suffering persecution help us overcome sin??

  • Did people party in Peter's day like today?
  • What is the draw?
  • What is the danger?
  • How did suffering persecution help them resist that draw?

Hebrews: Are You Strong Enough?

What if your daughter was kidnapped and converted to Islam as happened to some in Africa recently? What if you were jailed for your faith for decades? What if you were chased out of your country and had to live as a refugee in a foreign land for the rest of your life? Would you still keep your faith? Are we that strong? Well, no, we are not in ourselves. But the Bible explains how we can get all we need to face trials and be more than conquerors!! That is what we are going to discover in this study of Hebrews.

Why do Good People Need Christ?

We will seek to answer a question many ask that goes like this: I have this neighbor and he is the nicest guy: honest, hard working, good husband and dad, baseball coach... and he will give you anything... but he doesn't want anything to do with God. Why does he need Christ... or would God really send someone like that to Hell?"

Sermon discussion questions for parents to use with their children:
  • So what did we learn today about Good people and their need for Christ?
  • What is their sin?
  • Why is that sin so bad?
  • What did we learn from the beginning illustration concerning the big manor and lands you own and the person who uses it but doesn't like you?
  • Who do we know that this describes?
  • What should we be doing for that person?

1 Peter: A Surprising People and Their Unexpected Response

Why is it so hard to follow God's commands to turn the other cheek, to not speak evil about those who do it to us or to not seek revenge? We will look at this as we continue through Peter. What is really amazing is how our response to such circumstances tells us and the world a lot about the Kingdom of God.
