Acts: A Dangerous Journey

It is not unusual when folks think (and reasonably so) they are doing God's will. Then when things get hard or don't go as they expected or unforeseen challenges arise, they despair and think that they have misunderstood God's will. They think God's will in their life will always go smoothly. For the Apostle Paul... nothing could seem further from the truth at times. In Acts we will witness a clear call from God to journey to Rome turn into what we would call a nightmare. With setbacks, trials, disasters... even a bite by a poisonous snake. Yet, Paul never questions whether he is in God's will. We have much to learn from such a man!!

The Power and Authority of God

As we witness real storms in the world we see the awesome power of God. God the power to destroy, yet He also has the poor to create and restore life. And He still loves and cares about little us.

Mark: Stormy Seas... Great Savior

A huge, dangerous storm... a sleeping Savior... panicked sailors... an awake Savior who rebukes the elements... wow, Mark has much here for us to grasp and believe and act on!!

Mark 4:35-41
John 1:1,1:14

Sermon discussion questions for parents to use with their children:
  • What does the fact that Jesus was sleeping tell us about His person?
  • How did this storm affect the disciples' faith?
  • What does the fact that Jesus commanded the elements... and they listened... tell us about His person?
  • Is it always wrong to have fears?
  • Does this always mean I have no faith?
  • Why did Jesus question the disciples about their fears and lack of faith?
  • What can we take away from this event as we face storms?

Hebrews: An Anchor in the Storm

Everyone will face many storms in life. Storms toss us, scare us, and shake up our faith. Hebrews talks of an anchor. An amazing solid anchor that has kept the saints in the past solid and immovable in their storms. The writers of Hebrews encourages us immensely in the passage that we will study tonight by showing us how this amazing anchor for the soul is ours as well.
