The Gospel in the Old Testament: The Forever King and Kingdom

If the news depresses you, and the world seems to be in a spiral of decay... there is good news — and it's found in the Old Testament — a forever Kingdom is here, is coming, and will finally win!

Matthew 1:1,12:22-30
Luke 1:31-33
Romans 8:23-25

  • Why is David and his kingdom such a good forerunner for the Messiah?
  • Why is Jesus' Kingdom is superior to the present world kingdoms?
  • When was Jesus' Kingdom inaugurated?
  • How does one get into the Kingdom?
  • When will it be consummated?
  • Why should I be concerned to get myself in?

2 Corinthians: Going from Too Lightly to Awe and Wonder

We have a tendency to take things so lightly at times. Then someone comes along and reminds us of how significant the gospel is, how crucial it is that we live it out for those around us, and how we can get power to do that. We will listen to the Apostle Paul remind us of these things from 2 Corinthians and cause us to feel an awe and wonder at what we sometimes treat too lightly.

Mark: Stormy Seas... Great Savior

A huge, dangerous storm... a sleeping Savior... panicked sailors... an awake Savior who rebukes the elements... wow, Mark has much here for us to grasp and believe and act on!!

Mark 4:35-41
John 1:1,1:14

Sermon discussion questions for parents to use with their children:
  • What does the fact that Jesus was sleeping tell us about His person?
  • How did this storm affect the disciples' faith?
  • What does the fact that Jesus commanded the elements... and they listened... tell us about His person?
  • Is it always wrong to have fears?
  • Does this always mean I have no faith?
  • Why did Jesus question the disciples about their fears and lack of faith?
  • What can we take away from this event as we face storms?

Hebrews: In Awe of Christ

The Christian is right to be in awe of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is not only God, eternal, and glorious... He also is human and that aspect of Him is so important to understand as we trust in Him and relate to Him. Actually this Hebrews text tells us in a powerful way how He relates to us, understands us, and is able to be sympathetic to us when we are in trials and temptations... Halleluah, what a Savior!!!
