Colossians: The Plan...The Glory...Why Christians Should Be Exuberant about the Future

The world is hopeless and fearful... but God's plan in Christ is to make the Christian: hopeful, confident, and exuberant about the future and the present! This is Paul's message to the Colossians.

Ephesians 1:1-12,3:1-12
Colossians 1:15-27
1 Corinthians 1:30-31
Romans 8:18
Philippians 3:20-21

Sermon discussion topics for parents to use with their children:
  • Why are people so hopeless today?
  • What is poverty stricken about the prevailing worldview?
  • Why is the Christian worldview so different?
  • What is God's plan?
  • How is Christ central to that plan?
  • How are we included in that plan?
  • Why is the future so bright for us?
  • What impact should this all have on us?

The Gospel in the Old Testament: Redemption from Egypt

Redemption is a key word in the Gospel of Christ, but the concept was first fixed in the mind's of God's people in the Old Testament by the powerful work of God in freeing the captives from Egypt. Their response was profound worship... as ours should also be!!

Matthew 20:28
1 Corinthians 10:1-4,10:11
John 8:34,14:30,8:36
Ephesians 2:2
Galatians 3:13

Sermon discussion topics for parents to use with their children:
  • What would it have been like to flee from Egypt?
  • What did they feel when the Red Sea closed back in?
  • What was the response to this great redemption?
  • What are the three things holding us in captivity?
  • How has Jesus redeemed us from all three?
  • What should our response be?

Redemption Accomplished

The plan of redemption was established even before the creation of the world. The Cross was the completion of that plan. Therefore, work out your salvation with fear and trembling to do the good works God has called you to do.

Genesis 1:1
John 3:19,3:16
Romans 4:25
Hebrews 1:1
James 2:17,3:24

2 Corinthians: What Does Works Have to Do with It?

How can the Bible say we will be judged by our works... when it also says we are saved by grace through faith and not of works? This is an important question for many reasons, but most importantly because we are all going to appear before the judgment seat of Christ. In our study of 2 Corinthians, we will take up this topic.
