Acts: The Finish, but Not the End

As we finish our study of the book of Acts, the book concludes with Paul's ministry in Rome, but the mission continues today through God's people. Paul had hoped one day to find himself in Rome as a missionary, instead he finds himself imprisoned. This did not hinder Paul from teaching and preaching. Just as Paul was used by God to proclaim the salvation message, so we, regardless of roadblocks and detours in life, can be used mightily as His ambassadors. Nothing can stop the message of salvation from going forward!

Acts: Explaining Our Faith

It is becoming very difficult to share the gospel with this present generation. There is less common ground to begin with than was true in the past. How do we get started? If you have struggled in sharing and explaining your faith with modern folks, you will this section of Acts to be very helpful. We will be studying how Paul addresses the people of Athens who were very much like our culture today. As we hear him reason with them, we will be better equipped to share our faith today.

Acts: Personal Evangelism

In chapter 8 of Acts one thing we will be looking at is personal evangelism. 1 Peter 24:32 should challenge every Christian with at least two questions:

  1. Is it my prayer and earnest desire to share my hope and faith with the lost and dying of this world?

  2. Does my life display this hope and faith that might make someone ask about it?

Allow the Spirit of God to challenge you to be better prepared to share your hope and faith.

Acts: Be Bold

We live in an increasingly hostile environment to the Gospel, and yet, it is a time in which people need desperately to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. How do we not be intimidated but rather be bold in sharing our faith? Well, we have a thrilling account of the early church and how they handled, by God's grace and power, a similar situation. In Acts we will look at how they found grace and power!

Acts: Reactions

This passage in Acts is a wonderful account of a lame man who, when healed, goes leaping and shouting through the temple. When a crowd gathers, Peter gives us a clear understanding of how the Gospel is to be presented to others. We also see the opposite reactions among those who heard. We will learn a lot about what we believe and what we should share with others about the faith.

Death is Gain: Heaven Is Being with Jesus

The longing of New Testament Christians was to be with Jesus. This longing was so great that they thought death was gain! To be with Him was their goal and should be ours as well.

2 Corinthians 5
Philippians 1:21-23
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
John 13:33-14:5
Revelation 1:10-17,5:6

It is interesting that the New Testament nowhere speaks of believers going 'to heaven' when they die. Instead, they go to be with Christ. Edward Donnelly
John Bunyan's Mr. Standfast (The Pilgrim's Progress), just before he dies, rejoices that 'I am going now to see that Head that was crowned with thorns and that face that was spat upon for me. I have formerly lived by hearsay and faith, but now I go where I shall live by sight and shall be with Him in whose company I delight myself.' Edward Donnelly
Sooner could a worm aspire to be a brain surgeon than a sinner expect to work his own passage to glory. Edward Donnelly
So then let Deserved be written on the floor of hell, but on the door of heaven and life The Free Gift. Richard Baxter
If you are in Christ, do not be afraid of death. He who has conquered that last enemy is waiting for you on the other side. As soon as our souls pass into glory we will see Jesus. He who has known and loved us from before the beginning of time will welcome us into His immediate presence. We will not feel strange or out of place, but profoundly and permanently at home. We will know that we are where we belong, and everlastingly secure. Edward Donnelly
If we do not get to heaven before we die, we shall never get there afterward. Charles Spurgeon
The joy of heaven is communing with Christ. The joy of earth should be communing with Him as well. Edward Donnelly
Modern Christians are ready to busy themselves in almost any religious activity but that of quiet communion with their Lord, regarded more as a duty than a delight. They hope to go to heaven, claim to be looking forward to it eagerly. Yet the essence of the heaven they profess to long for is that communion with Christ in which they show so little interest! Something profoundly troubling underlies this spiritual apathy. Edward Donnelly
